On April 15, 2010 The Wylie Police department received a call from a landscaping crew about a deceased person. When they arrived they came upon a scene that has rocked the N.E. Texas area to its knees. The story now dubbed Wylies Angel has touched thousands of hearts and a 63-yr-old woman has now been charged with murder. Read arrest affidavit here.

Six yr-old Gerren Joseph Isgrigg was the deceased person police found lying under viney overgrowth in a pile of brush with a blanket that covered him. Gerren was disabled being completely deaf, blind, and fed by a feeding tube which was removed prior to his death. The woman who was suppose to care for him, his own grandmother took him to Lake Lavon and just dumped him like trash and left him to die.

“She left him some place where she thought he’d be found,” the man said. “I mean, she fed him and everything. He came as a complete vegetable, the whole time and everything.” stated a family member.

That woman – Darlene Phillips (sorry ass grandmother) had been taking care of Gerren since his mother {Nyki Phillips} divorce from Gerrens father {Sgt. Jerry Isgrigg} in 2006. Nyki Phillips lives in Oklahoma and Jerry Isgrigg lives in California. It is unknown the last time Nyki seen Gerren. However Jerry Isgrigg’s reported last visit was June 2007. It has been published that he thought Gerren was in the care of his former wife. So did Nyki just dump her son and move away?

“I had no idea she had passed him off to her mom and dad. I don’t understand how if a child is going downhill, you don’t look into it, you don’t go to a doctor. There is no excuse for that,” Jerry Isgrigg said.

Jerry Isgrigg said his son was born one month premature and shortly after was diagnosed with West Syndrome, a disorder that causes siezures.He states that he wasn’t surprised police found his son weighing only 28 pounds. He said there was a very short time in Gerren’s life when he drank from a bottle and knew how to swallow, but when he stopped doing that he was fed through a feeding tube. According to published reports Isgrigg said he was shocked and angry at what transpired.

My thing is this… Why are these mothers and fathers leaving a disabled child in the care of an elderly woman? Where is the mother? Why is she not taking care of her own child? I understand that Mr. Isgrigg is in the military, but that does NOT excuse his responsibility of being more involved. Maybe this tradgedy could have been avoided. Sure be shocked and angry at what has transpired but be angry at yourself as well. There are things that could have been done to avoid this. I am not trying to throw blame but maybe I am just a bit…
