mcclellandI want to spend some time and bring attention to a devastating crime that occurred in Paris, Texas on September 16, 2008. Brandon McClelland a black man was murdered by 2 white men. He was dragged behind a vehicle and ran over. My understanding is that blood and body matter was found under the truck as well as under the hood where the engine, etc is located. This shows and proves a “thrill kill.” You see.. Brandon was with these 2 white gentlemen that evening. Only thing is.. the 2 white gentlemen made it through that night alive. Brandon did not..

I am from the Piney Woods of East Texas. I went to Paris High School. I know about the racial tensions just as well as anyone else from those parts. Its racist pure and simple. If your black you will get a harsher sentence then a white criminal. Its a proven fact for Lamar and Red River County. Don’t believe me.. look it up for yourself.
Lets get back to the crime of September 16, 2008. The affidavit states the following:
Brandon was walking in front of the pickup when Shannon Finley, 27 and Charles Ryan Crostley, 27, allegedly ran him down and then dragged him 40 feet along the road until his mutilated body popped out from beneath vehicle. Yeah, pretty gruesome. Just as gruesome as the story of James Byrd from Jasper, Texas who was brutally murdered when his ankles were chained to the back of a pickup truck and he was dragged. His head ultimately hit a culvert and he was then beheaded. Why you ask am I being so gruesome.. because thats what we are dealing with here people. We need help in Paris. This story is extremely similar and smells of racial givings. We have got to bring this to the forefront so that the men who did this crime are prosecuted appropriately.
I mentioned earlier that in Lamar County whites are generally given a lighter sentence than blacks. Lets explore this for just a moment. Right now the police department from the onset have already started downplaying the racial overtones of this case. Another interesting note is that the District Attorney for Lamar County Gary Young defended Shannon Finley 5 years ago for another murder case as a court-appointed defense attorney. Shannon Finley eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter. So how can Mr. Young be impartial in this case as a prosecutor? He should immediately step down and hand this case over. IMMEDIATELY!
I also want to talk about some of the unprofessionalism in regards to the county officials in this case.
  • Why was evidence left on the scene (beer cans)?
  • Why was pieces of Brandons skull still left on the scene for passerbys and news media to find weeks later?
On October 9th I emailed many news media outlets concerning this case including Matt Drudge, Foxnews, AbcNews, MSNBC, and CBSNews. I also contacted Howard Witt with the Chicago Tribune to inquire on how to make this story go national. Finally the big media has a hold on it now.. It hit MSNBC tonight and was on the front page of MSNBC.Com.

Now we have to hope that Lamar County officials will do the right thing. Mr. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, I hope you are paying attention. Fix it now Mr. Young! Fix it now Lamar County. Be proactive! Someone needs to step in and take an overall look at this case and handle it right. Do right by Brandons family and the citizens of Paris, Texas and the United States of America.

    My heart goes out to the family , even tho it has been a while since this incedent, i am sure that there is still a hole there, and the ppl that commited this horrible act were nothing but cowards.
